Access lynda.com From Home

Have you taken a video course from lynda.com yet? Until now this valuable resource was only available within the library. The good news is that we are now able to offer it remotely, so you can take the courses in the comfort of your home or office. Here’s the scoop:

lyndalynda.com offers training videos taught by industry experts, working professionals and veteran teachers that allow you to learn at your own pace. You can play, stop, rewind and replay the videos. Instruction covers topics from Apple, Adobe, Blackboard, Facebook, Google, HTML, Microsoft, Open Source, SPSS and many more. You can even learn how to make movies, record songs, retouch photos, design apps or create 3D animations.

The first time you use lynda.com you will need to create a profile by entering your library card number and a password. You will be asked to enter this information each time you access your personal profile. The software will keep track of your courses so that you can begin where you left off each time, review a history of courses you have taken, and earn certificates of completion. If you wish, you can view a written transcript of each video and even keep your own notes within the program.

I just took the lynda.com class on iPad Tips and Tricks and learned quite a bit. One feature I like is that there is always a clickable table of contents on the left side of the screen, which makes it easy to select just the specific parts of the course that interest you. You’ll notice in this example that the listing for each segment also tells you how long it is:

ipadtocWhether you are a beginner or a pro, lynda.com has courses at your level. Have fun exploring the possibilities!
